Hoping to stay true to this year’s prom theme, the “Roaring Twenties,” StuCo representatives have informed The Dungeon that breathalyzers will be used to mimic the strict Prohibition laws of the era. In order to perfectly capture the spirit of the 1920s, the event will be held in accordance with the 18th Amendment.
“Our main goal was to provide as authentic a ‘Roaring Twenties’ experience as we could,” says junior class treasurer John Mayburn. “Fortunately, at PHS, the long-standing tradition of Prohibition is alive and well.”
StuCo’s prohibitive measures are both historically accurate, and very necessary in order to prevent members of PHS Moonshine Club from sneaking jugs of home-brewed alcohol into the event.
StuCo has confirmed that, to further the historical accuracy of the event, the “Roaring Twenties” themed prom will be followed by a “Great Depression” themed after party, featuring breadlines and a surplus of dust. Additionally, in keeping with the spirit of the 1920s, all African American and Jewish students will be denied admission.
